"God used this imperfect family to give me a glimmer of His perfect love." - Larry Young Jr.
This is a follow-up Q&A on Larry's adoptive story: "Finding Out I Was Adopted As A Baby" on YouTube @ https://youtu.be/V72aaIYpn2s.
Larry made the comment above as he reflected on his adoptive parents. While they had very little materially-speaking, they sacrificed and opened up their arms and their home to a baby who needed a home.
Listen in as I do a follow-up Q&A with Larry and he shares about how he found peace in his identify even after discovering he was adopted at 22.
Here are a few of the questions we raise and discuss:
Did he struggle with his identity after his friend (whom he later found out was his brother) told him he was adopted?
Did he wrestle with bitterness or anger toward his adoptive parents, bio mom or God?
How did he thrive in school when he struggled and his parents couldn't help him (his dad worked all the time and his mom never graduated from high school)?
Praying this is an encouragement to you!

The Gritty Gospel with Christy Young | Hope Heavenward
Friday Jul 12, 2024
Friday Jul 12, 2024
My sister, Shaylen Dixon, and I discuss God's faithfulness amidst our Mom's terminal cancer diagnosis. Come LAUGH and CRY with us as PRAISE God's FAITHFULNESS!
Our Mom battled cancer for fourteen years. On every front, she aimed to bring God glory with her life as long as the Lord gave her life here on earth.
She was so feisty, and used to say: "I want the enemy to tremble as my feet hit the floor in the morning!" She desired to have such an intimate walk with Christ that the enemy would tremble when she was awake - knowing she would be at work to exalt the Lord!
She was creative, zany, so cute and full of life, and faithful to her Heavenly Father - persevering to the end. She was always looking for an opportunity to share the gospel or encourage someone in the chemo room.
Praying this encourages you!

"Bite-Size Apologetics" | the Bible is Supported by Historical Evidence
Thursday Jul 04, 2024
Thursday Jul 04, 2024
Three tests support the trustworthiness of Scripture: the bibliographic test, the external test and the internal test. These three tests are commonly used to examine the historical nature of ancient pieces of literature.
The Bibliographic Test examines the Biblical manuscripts themselves, and looks at the quantity and quality of the surviving manuscripts and how closely they are written in time to the events they describe.
The Internal Test examines the substance of the Bible itself and asks the questions: "What does the Bible claim to be? Why did the Biblical authors write and pen the history they recorded?
Finally, the External Test examines the historical evidence from outside the Bible. So we will look at extra-biblical authors and historians and archaeological evidence that supports the events recorded in Scripture.

Bite-Size Apologetics | The Bible is Theologically Consistent
Wednesday May 15, 2024
Wednesday May 15, 2024
Despite the fact that the Bible is a total of sixty-six books, written by over forty authors, in three different languages, on three different continents, over a span of 1400-1600 years, it is theologically consistent - supporting and affirming the Bible's claim that the authors were inspired by the Holy Spirit in all they wrote.

Bite-Size Apologetics | The Bible Underscores Fulfilled Prophecy
Tuesday Apr 30, 2024
Tuesday Apr 30, 2024
There are over 2,500 prophecies in the Bible! Over 2,000 have been fulfilled with remarkable precision and we wait anxiously for the final 500 to be fulfilled!
It is so imperative that we understand that so much prophecy was spoken 500 to 1200 years before the birth of Christ, and then so many of those prophecies were fulfilled by the birth, life, ministry, death and resurrection of Christ!
In this video, I discuss a handful of the prophecies fulfilled in Christ and pray these truths encourage your hearts!

Bite-Size Apologetics | Collection of Reliable Manuscripts
Saturday Apr 13, 2024
Saturday Apr 13, 2024
We discuss the RELIABILITY of Biblical manuscripts in this episode. This is a series of videos breaking down the TRUTH acronym and discussing WHY we can TRUST the Bible as TRUTH!
The Bible is 66 books written by over 40 different authors - some of whom are eyewitnesses to the events they record - and there are thousands of manuscripts written close in time to the original manuscripts!
Numerous scribes and translators worked to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the original text. Additionally, there are non-Christian historians and authors who acknowledge Jesus's life and teaching, and discuss events recorded in the Bible, thereby corroborating much of the history recorded in Scripture. There are also more than one hundred archaeological finds that support the truthfulness of Scripture! Come along with me and let's learn about the reliability of the Biblical manuscripts together!

The Gritty Gospel with Christy Young | Fostering Drives Me to the Gospel Daily
Thursday Apr 04, 2024
Thursday Apr 04, 2024
Fostering kids - like parenting generally - has been incredibly humbling and such an incredible sanctifying tool the Lord is using to refine me.
The Lord is ever-teaching me that I do not always know what's best (even though I may think I do), that I do not know what His good and perfect will aims to accomplish and that it's not my job to be preoccupied with fostering outcomes (Will the kids in my care be reunified with bio mom and dad? What will their lives look like one year down the road? Five years?).
The Lord has used and is ever using fostering as a means to daily humble me and convict me of my pride and selfishness. As we work with difficult bio parents, daily care for children that are not our own, strive to obtain our yearly foster training hours, meet monthly with case managers and attend hearings - the whole system can feel overwhelming. And then when you see a bio mom or dad making compromising choices which have and are substantially impacting their children, it's really hard not to make judgment calls about the best case scenario for kids in your care. I'm guilty of it.
And the Lord is actively teaching, refining and humbling me - reminding me that I am not God. That my ways are not His ways, and that I do not always know what's best for the kids in my care. And that worrying about outcomes for the children in my home is not my burden or responsibility (except for ever-advocating for them). Jesus is teaching me to leave all the heavy lifting to Him, and for me to rest in doing the work He has set before me - to daily love and care for His children. And stretch to love and encourage difficult bio parents along the way. He's daily reminding me that every single child in my care - bio, adopted or foster - is HIS first and foremost, and that His will will be done for each and every one of them. I am humbly reminded that I don't need to be concerned with outcomes.
My job is to work in the daily - loving, caring for, teaching and discipling all the kids in my house, and aiming to love, support and encourage biological parents of the foster kids in my home. The Lord is reminding me that my only real job is to live out the gospel daily with all of those in my home and those the Lord places in my path. My job is to be an advocate for the foster children in my care, to pray for them, their parents and their hearts, speak up when I need to advocate for a child, and then to leave all that I have little to no control over at the Lord's feet.
