Starting your first year of homeschooling can feel exciting—and honestly, a little overwhelming. There are curricula to compare, supplies to buy, activities to schedule, and a thousand voices telling you what your homeschool is supposed to look like. But before you fill the calendar, decorate the schoolroom, or obsess over every extra, let’s slow down and prepare what matters most.
In this episode, we’re talking about how to prepare:
**Your family’s mission and the deeper reason you are homeschooling
**A daily rhythm that works in your actual home—not an imaginary perfect one
**The core subjects that deserve your time and attention
**A realistic plan for meals, laundry, chores, and home responsibilities
**Your own heart for the beautiful, messy, sanctifying work ahead
Because homeschooling is not just about choosing books and completing lessons. It is about discipleship, relationships, faithfulness, and learning to depend on Jesus when the day does not go according to plan.
You do not need a Pinterest-perfect schoolroom. You do not need to imitate another family. And you do not need to have every detail figured out before you begin.
You need a clear mission, a sustainable rhythm, and the grace to remember that God is at work even in the interruptions, unfinished assignments, sibling arguments, and days when everyone—including Momma—needs a fresh start.
Your first year will not be perfect. But by God’s grace, it can still be full of discipleship, relationship-building and beautiful sanctification - for both you and your children.
This episode is for the first-year homeschool mom who wants practical help, honest encouragement, and a gospel-centered reminder that her confidence does not have to rest in how perfectly she homeschools—but in the One who is faithful to lead her family.

What does faithful Christian motherhood look like when you are still learning, still repenting and still making mistakes?
In this honest episode of The Gritty Gospel, Heather and I share the five mistakes we still make as a Christian mom and what God is teaching us through them.
This is not a polished motherhood episode pretending everything is tidy and perfect. This is for the Christian homeschool mom who loves her children, wants to disciple them well, and still finds herself losing patience, chasing control, overcomplicating the day, comparing herself to others, or forgetting to pray before reacting.
Biblical motherhood is not built on pretending. It is built on repentance, humility, grace, truth, and daily dependence on Christ. Our children do not need mothers who never fail. They need mothers who know how to confess sin, receive grace, and keep following Jesus.

Are children a burden, an interruption, or a blessing?
In this countercultural episode of The Gritty Gospel, Heather and Christy talk about five lies moms believe about having "too many kids" and how Scripture reshapes the way we see children, sacrifice, motherhood, and family life.
This episode is for Christian moms, homeschool moms, big family moms, and women who feel the pressure of a culture that treats children like obstacles to comfort, freedom, money, career and personal identity.
We talk honestly about the cost of raising children, but also the biblical beauty of receiving children as a gift from the Lord.
This is not about pretending big family life is easy. It's not. It is about rejecting the lie that hard means bad, costly means foolish, and children are only blessings when they fit neatly into our plans. We pray you leave encouraged!

“What happens when God calls a woman to lay down career success and pick up the hidden work of discipleship at home?”
In this honest episode of The Gritty Gospel, we’re talking about Christian motherhood, homeschool mom life, discipleship, identity, career, calling, and what it really costs to lay down one dream in order to obey God in another.
In *Degrees, Diapers and the Death of My Ego*, we keep it real about leaving careers we worked hard for — careers tied to advanced degrees, achievement, income, status, and identity — to stay home and answer God’s call to disciple our children.
We talk about the pride that was exposed in us, the fear of walking away from professional success, and the quiet grief that can come when a Christian mom lays down her career to raise her kids. We also wrestle with a bigger question: What actually makes a life significant? American culture often tells women that significance is found in salary, title, influence, education, and achievement. But Scripture gives Christian moms a deeper and steadier vision: faithfulness to God, hidden obedience, discipleship in the home, and raising children in the fear and instruction of the Lord.
If you are a Christian homeschool mom in the trenches, a stay-at-home mom wondering if your work matters, or a mother who has left a career to raise and disciple your children, this conversation is for you.
You are not “just” a mom. You are not wasting your education. You are not disappearing. God sees the hidden work. The diapers, dishes, lessons, correction, prayers, conversations, and daily discipleship matter deeply in the kingdom of God.
In this episode, we talk about: • Christian motherhood and identity in Christ • Leaving a career to stay home with your kids • Homeschool mom encouragement • Biblical discipleship in the home • Pride, ego, and finding worth in achievement • Fear of losing status, income, or influence • What makes a life truly significant • Why motherhood is holy work, even when it feels hidden • Encouragement for Christian moms raising children for the Lord
Our prayer is that this episode encourages the mom who feels unseen, the homeschool mom who is tired, the woman who wonders if she gave up too much, and the Christian mother learning that a significant life is not always loud, public, or applauded — sometimes it looks like quiet faithfulness in the home. If this episode encourages you, please like, comment, subscribe, and share it with another Christian mom who needs to be reminded that her work in the home matters.

Are you a Christian mom facing fear about the unknowns in parenting? Do you ever wonder if you are doing enough, preparing your children enough, discipling them enough, or protecting them enough from a world that feels increasingly uncertain?
In this episode of The Gritty Gospel, Larry and Christy Young talk honestly about the fear of the unknown in motherhood, homeschool parenting, and family discipleship. Christian moms are often carrying invisible burdens: fear over their children’s future, anxiety about spiritual formation, uncertainty about homeschooling decisions, and the pressure to control outcomes they were never meant to carry.
But Scripture gives us a better word.
God has not called mothers to be sovereign. He has called mothers to be faithful.
This episode will encourage and challenge Christian homeschool moms to trust God with the hidden things, disciple their children with courage, repent where fear has become control, and remember that God is present in the unknown.
We talk about Deuteronomy 29:29, Isaiah 41:10, Deuteronomy 6, Galatians 6:9, Matthew 6:34, Hebrews 13:5, and John 15 as we consider what it means to parent with faith instead of panic.
If you are a Christian mother, homeschool mom, foster mom, adoptive mom, or a parent trying to raise children with eternity in mind, this episode is for you. You are not alone in the unknown. God is already there.

Do you ever wonder, “Am I actually capable of parenting my children?”
In this episode of The Gritty Gospel, Christy Young sits down with her husband, Larry, for a raw, theological, and deeply encouraging conversation about Christian parenting, weakness, discipleship, motherhood, fatherhood, and what it means to depend on God when you feel completely unequipped.
The truth is, parenting exposes us. It exposes our fear, anger, impatience, control, pride, exhaustion, and desperate desire to get it right. But the answer is not to pretend we are enough. The answer is to confess the truth: we are not enough, but God is. Your children do not need you to be their savior. They do not need a perfect mom. They do not need a flawless dad. They need parents who repent, obey, pray, disciple, and keep pointing them to Jesus.
In this episode, we talk about: *Why Christian parents feel so overwhelmed *The danger of trying to be the savior of your children *Why parenting is discipleship, not behavior management *How God equips weak and dependent parents *Why obedience matters even when you feel inadequate *The difference between control and faithful leadership *Why your child’s heart ultimately belongs to God *What to do when you feel like you are failing as a mom or dad
This episode is for Christian moms, Christian dads, homeschool parents, foster parents, adoptive parents, and any parent who has ever whispered, “Lord, I cannot do this.”
The good news is not that you are enough. The good news is that Christ is.

Christian motherhood is holy work, but even good and beautiful things can become idols when they take the place only God should hold.
In this episode of The Gritty Gospel, Heather and Christy walk through five idols that quietly sneak into Christian Motherhood: control, comfort, approval, productivity, and child-centered motherhood. This is not meant to crush tired moms. It's meant to call us back to freedom in Christ.
If you are a Christian homeschool mom trying to disciple your children in a soft and lost culture, this episode will help you examine the places where fear, comparison, performance, and anxiety may be shaping your parenting more than Scripture.
We will talk about repentance, faithful motherhood, daily discipleship, and what it means to love our children without making them our functional savior.
